Not getting 14901 yet? Here’s a solution

Yesterday, Microsoft released build 14901 to the world. However, due to Microsofts “device targeting”, many aren’t receiving this build (yet). There is however a way to get around this and force the 14901 to install in some very easy steps.

  1. Go to your Windows Insider Settings
  2. Click “Stop Receiving Insider Builds”
  3. Under the dropdown is a link to completely stop receiving builds, click that link
  4. Windows will ask you to restart, do so
  5. Go to your Windows Insider Settings
  6. Join the Insider Program again
  7. Again, Windows will ask you to restart, do so again
  8. Go to Windows Update and check for updates

After step 8, it might take a couple minutes (expect somewhere around 10 to 30 minutes, but this may take longer) before you will see the build pop up. I’m not saying this is a solution for everyone, but it certainly is helping a lot of people.

Anyway, have fun.

  1. Even if you are set for new builds you won’t see them if you are logged in as a non admin user. Found that the hard way.

  2. It’s actually a nice and useful piece of info.
